Jason has lived in the La Trobe electorate area for more than 40 years and shares a strong affinity with local residents. He is passionate about community safety and is focused on ensuring La Trobe has first-class health facilities, schools and sporting hubs, while committing to upgrading roads so that residents can spend less time driving and more time at home with their families.

Prior to entering politics, Jason graduated from the Victorian Police Academy and progressed to become a Detective Senior Constable at the Organised Crime Squad. He completed a Masters in Innovation Service Management and completed a thesis on Counter-Terrorism. He was promoted to Senior Sergeant at the Counter-Terrorism Unit.

From 2004 to 2010 Jason served as the Federal Member for La Trobe where he actively used his knowledge of counter-terrorism to contribute to the ongoing national debate. This assisted the Howard Government in implementing tougher terrorism laws. In 2008 Jason was appointed as Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Justice and Public Security.

In 2013, Jason was re-elected to Federal Parliament and was subsequently appointed the Chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Migration. In this role, he has tackled the difficult issue of visa cancellations for violent criminals, as well as fighting for placing intervention orders on extremists and promoting greater recognition of the very real threat of youth gangs.

Jason held the position of Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Justice and Public Security from the 22nd of September 2008 to the 14th of September 2010.

Jason was sworn in as the Assistant Minister for Customs, Community Safety and Multicultural Affairs on the 29th of May 2019.

A few of Jason’s other achievements include the delivery of major upgrades to the Monash Freeway, together with the Beaconsfield Interchange and the much needed upgrades to Clyde Road. Jason also presided over upgrades at the Berwick campus of Federation University, as well as Minta City, a Berwick based development that will deliver 10,000 jobs in advanced manufacturing.

With the redistribution of the Federal electorate boundaries in July 2018, Jason proudly took on the responsibility of representing the very diverse area of Pakenham and its surrounds. He is currently delivering large upgrades to current facilities, while also delivering in providing new sporting facilities for residents. These upgrades will not only support more junior and female participation, but will also deliver great benefits to the local community now and in the future.

Since taking in Pakenham, Jason has listened and acted on feedback from the community and has secured and delivered $70 million to upgrade Racecourse Road and $13 million to upgrade McGregor Road.

Jason lives locally with his wife Judy and their beautiful daughter Jasmine. As a result, he is dedicated to delivering for his community and in building a better future for all of our children.
